Jackson's First Shiner

And I'm not referring to the beer!

Jackson took his first big tumble yesterday at school. While he was exploring the toys and books in the bookcase, something else caught his attention and he turned his upper body too quickly (and let go of whatever he was holding on to!) This resulted in a quick tumble into the bookcase. I understand there were lots of tears but he quickly let everyone know he was ok with a big smile. I was expecting he would have a complete black eye this morning when I woke him up, but he still just has the red/purple bruise on the corner of his eye. It was quite a bit darker this morning, but it doesn't appear to be bothering him at all. Here's a quick pic that I snapped in the car this morning:

All Smiles

Jackson's daycare class went outside yesterday to enjoy the nice warm sunshine. Jackson had a blast! He really enjoyed exploring the grass and feeling the wind on his face (it was very windy yesterday). They said he had a smile on his face the entire time they were outside. Here is a quick pic they took of him:

Jackson's First Haircut!

On Saturday we took Jackson to get his first haircut. He was seriously in need of a trim so we tagged along to Scott's haircut appointment. Here are a few pics:

Getting ready to start trimming

Saving the first cut of hair

Not a fan of the haircut!

Check out all of the tears and the pouty lip!

No post-haircut photos yet, check back soon!

9 Month Doctor Appointment

We just returned from Jackson's 9 month doctor appointment. I was filled with tons of questions and Jackson was filled with tons tears. He seriously cried most of the appointment. He didn't want to get undressed, didn't want to be measured, didn't want to be examined, didn't want to get re-dressed, and definitely didn't want his shot (only one this month). So it was tons of fun. Overall Dr. G said he was doing great, appeared to be right where he was supposed to be. His growth has really slowed down, which is also normal at this point since he is becoming more and more active. He currently weighs 21.2 pounds (56th percentile) and is 28 inches tall (50th percentile). He still has his chubby little legs, but I guess they are less chubby than they used to be...

Here are a few other new things he has started doing:
- He has been babbling double syllables for a little while now, but yesterday he said "dada" and also "dadadadada"
- He has become very "talkative" and loves to sing along with the radio in the car
- He cut his 5th tooth yesterday, the upper right one just outside of the center teeth
- He is still an extraordinary sleeper, sleeping until at least 7, sometimes 8 on the weekends. He takes two naps a day, but they are almost always a battle to get him to go down
- He has the strength to crawl, but is still happy to get around the room using a combo of rolling, barrel rolling, army crawling and a little bit of real crawling
- His favorite toy right now is Maggie's "cat & mouse" toy, he LOVES this thing and Maggie is a little jealous
- Speaking of the kitties, Jackson absolutely loves his cats, especially Tiger; neither one has warmed to him yet though
- He loves almost all baby food we give him, but he is still very unsure about finger foods and new textures so we have a lot of work to do to get him starting to eat real food (but plenty of time)
- He will drink water from the bath (yuck!) or his sippy cup if we assist him
- We are still working on the transition to the big bathtub; he is still a little unsure of the big tub so he gets frightened easily (which makes for a very tough bath experience)

9 Months Old

Jackson is 9 months old today. For some reason this really seems like a big milestone, maybe just because that is how long I was carrying him while pregnant. I will provide an update with stats on height and weight after his doctor appointment on Monday. But in the meantime, here are a few photos of Jackson from this morning. His school is closed due to the snow, so he is happily hanging out in his monkey pajamas in my office while I work from home today.

"Mommy I need more toys!"

Trying to pull himself up to standing...

Playing!

"I wonder what's in here..."

"What does this say??"

"I'm ready to go running!"

Maybe We Moved?

So maybe overnight our house was transported to one of the former cold cities we used to live in. Because this cannot be Dallas. There is no way that Dallas could get 24 hours of straight snow and almost 6 inches of accumulation. No way.

Bath Time

I hijacked this photo from Geri because it was so adorable and I wanted to share it here. Before Jackson's trip to Minneapolis, he was very hesitant about bathing in the big bathtub. Well, after seeing his buddy Brody splashing away in the tub, Jackson got over his fears and had a blast. Too cute!!

Jackson's First Big Trip

Jackson and I packed up this weekend and headed north to visit our good friends Geri & Jason and to help celebrate Brody's 1st birthday. Here's Jackson at the airport on Friday waiting for our delayed flight:
Thankfully we were only delayed a couple hours and Jackson didn't protest too much.

On Saturday all the cowboys and cowgirls gathered for Brody's big birthday. Jackson had a blast playing with all of his new friends:
And helping Brody play with his new toys:
Post party, Jackson was totally wiped out. Here is where I found him fast asleep:
Sunday morning came way too fast, such a quick weekend. Geri gave Jackson a super cute hairstyle this morning:

And of course before we left we had to grab a few pics in the snow. Jackson didn't really know what to think about the snow or the snowsuit. Pretty funny!

The other big news is that with a little peer pressure from Brody, Jackson is now happy to take a bath in the big boy tub and has started a little bit of crawling. He can only crawl a little but then incorporates some rolling and army crawling to get to his destination. It was so great to see him getting so mobile!

Geri, thanks so much for such a wonderful weekend! We had a blast!
