Heavy Medal

I ran the Dallas Rock N Roll Half Marathon on Sunday.  I had trained well for the race and was very excited, as I really enjoyed this race last year.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be a pretty tough race for me.  First of all, it was warm (mid to high 70s through most of the race) and humid.  Not ideal weather for me, especially not after training through the winter.  Plus, I forgot how to race and decided to start way to fast.  I had a great 5k time, too bad I still had 10 miles of racing in front of me.  Around the half way mark I started to fall apart.  My splits slowed dramatically.  I was hot.  I was tired.  At around mile 10 I was in pretty bad shape.  I was starting to get leg cramps and even felt goosebumps and chills. It felt like there were weights attached to my feet. Awesome.  In the end I finished in 1:46, just one minute shy of my goal and still a post-Jackson PR.  Definitely a success.  But it wasn't enjoyable and didn't feel like an accomplishment.  It was just too much work in that second half to be fun.  So here's hoping the next race has better weather and I remember the golden rule of starting at race pace.

Fun Photos

Here are a few recent photos of Jackson.  He's been quite a ball of energy lately.  I wish I had some of that crazy energy!

Messy

We had spaghetti for dinner on Saturday night.  Jackson is an extremely messy eater, so I decided that removing his shirt before he started would be best.  Here he is, half-naked (nekkid, as he says it) going to town on his spaghetti (sketti).

Fishy

We adopted a fish over the weekend.  Scott has been wanting a Betta for quite some time, so now we have one.  We asked Jackson to name him.  He was quite creative, he named him "Fishy".  The cats are highly entertained with this new "toy".  They spend a lot of time sitting by his tank, hoping to catch him (his tank is fully enclosed, so they won't have much luck).
His travel cup was the perfect size for my car's cupholder

This is where the cats spend all of their time now

Weekend Fun

Mimi and Papa came to visit over the weekend.  I thought it would be fun to take him to his make-up swim class while they were here.  He was excited to show them his new skills.  That is until he arrived in the Saturday chaos.  He was a little unsure most of class, lots of tears, but he did swim without me again!  Yay!  Here are some of the fun photos Steve captured:

And then on Sunday Jackson showed off his driving skills for everyone.  I am amazed at how quickly he has figured out how to drive his truck.

And then a walk down the street:

Swimming Success

Finally. With the promise of a trip to the car wash, Jackson happily participated in last night's swimming lesson without me. I sat on the yellow bench and cheered him on. And he did amazing. The other parents (and even little kids) cheered him on too. He had no fear, followed all of Ms Becky's instructions and had fun. It was so exciting to watch!
