Extreme Makeover: Part 1

Jackson has been asking for a big boy bed for a few weeks now.  It eventually got to a point where we started to take him seriously.  So we ordered the bed rails, found some new bedding and bought the mattress.  The rails were delivered on Monday, so we decided Monday night was as good of a night as any to make the big switch.

I think I expected the disassembly of the toddler bed and assembly of the full size bed would be a lot easier.  It took three hours.  Jackson was a little upset about us taking apart his room and his "little bed".  He threw a lot of fits during the process and lost a number of privileges (TV time, Skipit, Gizmo, etc.).  Here he is during one of those fits:

But the moment we put the mattress on the bed, he immediately climbed up onto his new bed.  He was so happy!  It was adorable.
I was a little concerned how he would handle going to sleep, but since it was late (and I promised him a treat if he went the whole night without crying), he went right to sleep and slept soundly all night.  He even wanted to stay in bed longer when I woke him up this morning!  He's doesn't want to use the sheet, blanket or pillows just yet.  He's still too attached to his baby blankets and toddler pillow.

But bottomline, I think he's happy that he can fit more animals, toys and baby blankets in the new bed than in his toddler bed!  You should have seen all the stuff he piled onto the bed last night before bed time!

I will post more pics once we finish his room.  Right now it is one big mess.  I never realized how small that room was before.  The new bed takes up a lot of space!  Plus I want to keep the rocker in the room for a little while longer, so we have some work to do to configure everything in the best way possible.  And, we need to get some final items to finish out his bedding and then hang new pictures and decorations on his walls.

Hopefully he is just as excited tonight as he was last night!

Amy!

My friend Amy came to visit us this past weekend.  She lives in Chicago so unfortunately I don't get to see her very often.  It was a very quick weekend, but we had a blast catching up.  We didn't do anything too special, her only requests were Mexican food, Buffalo Chicken Rolls and Cocktails.  Sounds like a good plan to me!  We took her to our favorite pizza joint on Friday night.  I'd never been for dinner, and wow was it a scene.  But we had fun!  And then Saturday we did the required Grand Lux Cafe trip, saw Magic Mike and then had Mexican food for dinner.  I am positive I gained a ton of weight over the weekend, but it was all worth it!  Jackson absolutely LOVED Amy.  He met her once before, but he was only 3 months old at the time.  I loved how he called her "Emmy".  So cute!

July Lake Trip

Jackson and I took a weekend trip to the lake to visit dad.  The weekend was fairly low key, except for the fact that Jackson doesn't sleep (at all) while at the lake for fear that he will miss out on something.  I was exhausted by the end of the weekend!  But we still had a fabulous time!!

Three Year Doctor Visit

We finally had Jackson's 3 year old check up today.  Dr G was very booked when I called three months ago and today was the first available appointment.  But it was worth the wait.  We had a great visit with Dr. G!  I had a number of questions related to last week's foot injury (he said it appears ok, but to come in for x-rays next week if he is still limping), his thumb issue (I now know it is called "trigger finger" and is something he should grow out of), and his overall development.  Dr G was impressed with his growth over the past year.  Jackson currently weighs 33 pounds (50-75the percentile) and is 39 inches tall (75th percentile).  All the developmental tests looked good.  We talked quite a bit about what to do about the tonsils.  I just wish there was an easy answer.  A way to know how imperative it is to remove them now versus waiting.  It's a tough decision and likely one that will require a lot more thought and discussion.

Here are a couple photos I took before we left for the appointment.  He woke up early, so he got to watch an episode of Mickey while I finished getting dressed.  It might have made his day!

He always closes his eyes for the flash.  ugh!
